The Current State and Issues of IPv6 Deployment in Japan by Japan Internet Xing Co., Ltd
Wednesday March 5, 2025 1:30pm - 2:15pm JST
Speakers: Yoshiki Ishida
                   Thomas Nakama

In Japan, the adoption rate of IPv6 in fixed broadband has exceeded 70%, and an environment has been established where consumers can use IPv6 without being consciously aware of it. Due to legal and regulatory factors, Japan's fixed broadband business environment has a complex structure. This presentation will introduce the background and factors that have enabled IPv6 deployment to reach this level despite these complexities. Additionally, the current state of IPv6 and the issues that need to be addressed for further adoption will be discussed.

Current state of AI for networking from networking vendor perspective by Juniper Networks K.K.
Wednesday March 5, 2025 2:15pm - 3:00pm JST
Speakers: Yudai Yamagishi, Enterprise Solution Architect, Juniper Networks K.K.

In today’s digital landscape, businesses demand more than just connectivity—they require a seamless, high-quality network experience to ensure uninterrupted operations. Yet, service providers face significant challenges such as operator shortages, rising operational expenditures (OPEX), and prolonged Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) during outages. This session examines how artificial intelligence can be harnessed to assist network operations across various network segments—including campus LANs, data centers, and WANs—each at a different stage of AI maturity.

  1. Masahiro Nakagawa, Associate Distinguished Researcher, NTT Network Service Systems Laboratories,
  2. Hideki Nishizawa. NTT Network Innovation Laboratories
  3. Fumiaki Kudo, Senior Research Engineer, NTT Social Informatics Laboratories
  4. Yuzo Sasaki, Director,Optical Interconnect Device Project, NTT Device Innovation Center
1. Recent progress in IOWN APN: Use case and enabling technology development
In recent years, there has been extensive progress toward All-Photonics Network (APN) that is one of the major technological fields that comprise IOWN. Because of its high-capacity, low-latency, and high-energy efficiency features, the APN provides an exceptional communication environment, which can lead to various business opportunities. In this talk, recent efforts will be reviewed in the APN context, including use case and enabling technology development. Specifically, potential impact on data center operation and opportunities for further enrichment of remote/online activities are highlighted. Moreover, novel optical node systems, photonic exchanges (Ph-EXs) and photonic gateways (Ph-GWs), and their related technologies are introduced.

2. Automatic network operation based the optical network digital twin
To achieve high-capacity and low-latency Open All-Photonic Network, it is necessary to develop core technologies such as optical wavelength path quality estimation and optical path visualization. In this presentation, we show the research and development trends aimed at automatic operation technology that can achieve optical wavelength path provisioning and rapid fault localization by integrating them on an optical network digital twin platform with a simulation function for virtual facilities. We also show our field trial results with the open and disaggregated transponders that enable cloud-native operation.

3. Encrypted communication technology for quantum computer era
Encrypted communication with post-quantum security will be essential for next-generation networks such as All-Photonic Network (APN). In this presentation, we will introduce NTT's Encrypted communication technology that achieves post-quantum security and high crypto agility without compromising network performance in the quantum computer era. The presentation will also discuss the PoC of applying this technology to a data backup use case using international APN line between Taiwan and Japan and NTT's vision for end-to-end data security, including the computing environments to which the APN is connected.

4. Photonics-Electronics Convergence (PEC) device technology for IOWN
Optical transmission has made it possible to increase the speed, reduce the power consumption, and extend the distance of data transmission. The key to IOWN realization is to utilize the light for not only data transmission but also data processing. In this presentation, we introduce a small optical transceiver and optical chiplet that can be applied to inter/intra package optical interconnect .

JPRS's Information Dissemination Activities and the Latest Topics on DNS in Japan by Japan Registry Services Co., Ltd
Thursday March 6, 2025 11:00am - 12:30pm JST
Speaker: Yasuhiro Orange Morishita

JPRS (Japan Registry Services Co., Ltd.) was established in 2000 to carry out JP domain name registration and management, and to undertake the operation of the Domain Name System (DNS). As the JP domain name registry operator and a DNS expert, we provide technical information related to DNS to the community in Japan. This includes security advisories and important notifications for DNS operators.
This session introduces our information dissemination activities and provides technical details on the latest topics and security incidents related to DNS in Japan, such as subdomain takeover and NS takeover. The session is primarily aimed at network operators and engineers, but it does not require detailed knowledge of the DNS.
